Recall AI Assistant Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 15, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Recall AI Assistant Chrome extension ("Recall") processes information. Recall is designed as a personal, local-first memory assistant. Most data stays on your device, and network requests are made only when you intentionally ask a question of the AI assistant.

Information Recall processes

Recall may process the following types of information:

  • Webpage titles
  • Page URLs and domains
  • Visit dates and visit counts
  • Visible webpage text from pages you visit
  • Projects you create to organize your memory
  • Questions you submit to the AI assistant
  • Source content you have selected for a given question
  • IP addresses (transiently, at the network layer, when the backend is contacted)

Local storage

Webpage memories, visit records, projects, conversations, preferences, and privacy settings are stored locally in your browser using IndexedDB and Chrome extension storage. This data does not leave your device unless you explicitly submit a question to the AI assistant, in which case only the selected sources and your question are transmitted (see below).

AI requests

Recall does not automatically send every visited webpage to an AI provider. When you intentionally submit an AI question, Recall locally selects the saved sources it considers relevant and sends your question together with the selected source content to a Supabase-hosted backend operated for Recall. The backend uses OpenAI to generate the requested response. Requests to OpenAI are made with the parameter store: false, which instructs OpenAI not to retain the request for its own model training or history.

IP addresses

When your browser contacts the Recall backend, your IP address is temporarily visible to Supabase infrastructure and to the Recall backend. IP addresses may be processed temporarily for security, abuse prevention, and request rate limiting. They are not used to build advertising or marketing profiles.

Information Recall excludes

Recall is designed not to collect:

  • Passwords or authentication credentials
  • Payment field values
  • Form entries you type into pages
  • Cookies
  • Hidden input values
  • Content of browser-controlled pages (such as internal browser settings pages)

Sharing

Recall does not sell user data and does not use it for advertising, credit decisions, or unrelated profiling. Selected source content and AI questions are transferred to Supabase and OpenAI solely to provide the AI functionality you requested.

User controls

From within Recall you can:

  • Pause Automatic Memory at any time
  • Exclude specific websites from being remembered
  • Delete individual memories
  • Delete activity by date range
  • Erase all locally stored Recall data

Security

All data sent between Recall and the backend is transmitted over HTTPS. The OpenAI API key used by the backend is stored only as a server-side secret and is never included in the extension's client-side code.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as Recall changes. The effective date above will be updated when material changes are made. Continued use of Recall after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
